Becoming a Diabetes Safe accredited workplace

Diabetes Safe accreditation demonstrates that your organisation has put in place reasonable and practicable measures to create and promote diabetes safety. Accreditation demonstrates to your stakeholders that:

Protect

Diabetes-related workplace risks are actively managed and mitigated

Support

Employees with diabetes are supported to manage the condition effectively while at work and do not experience unfair discrimination

Prevent

Workplace practices do not increase a person’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes

There are eight requirements for becoming Diabetes Safe, starting with an organisational risk assessment which focuses on the work practices and policies that impact diabetes safety. From the assessment we will identify key risks and gaps and provide you with the specific accreditation requirements for your organisation. These will typically include:

“We found the Diabetes Safe accreditation process supported our people gain a deeper awareness and understanding of the condition and how it affects work. We were fully supported by the DSO team throughout the process to ensure we had everything required to obtain this important accreditation.”
