Kate Walker, DSO’s CEO will be speaking at UK Construction Week with Andrew Litchfield, a Partner from Gowling WLG discussing “Diabetes – an accident waiting to happen?”
Diabetes continues to rise. 7% of the populations have the condition with a further 1 million believed to be undiagnosed. It is not a question of if but when an accident will be attributed to diabetes in the industry, diabetes is prevalent but not checked by HSE yet.
Are companies doing all that is required of them and protecting their staff?
We will be talking about the condition and the possible implications if the industry does not increase understanding and implement appropriate procedures.
Working Well Together approached the Diabetes Safety Organisation and invited us to speak on this important topic. Now in its 20th year, UK Construction Week “Working Well Together” (WWT) was set up in 1998 as a joint industry/HSE initiative by the Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC) to help the construction industry to be more proactive in improving its health and safety performance – particularly among the smaller construction businesses. Things have definitely improved since then and WWT has developed into one of the most successful health and safety initiatives within the construction industry. There are currently 19 WWT regional groups across the country and on average one WWT event takes place each week somewhere across England, Scotland or Wales.
